METALTECO builds bulk terminal in port of Antioquia!.
Puerto Antioquia is the new Multipurpose Port Terminal that will connect the Urabá area with the productive regions of the center of the country.
Puerto Antioquia, located in the Gulf of Urabá, is the first seaport that the region will have. In the Caribbean, it will be the closest port to the productive centers of the 70% of GDP, which represents a clear competitive advantage over existing ports. The multipurpose port terminal will be Colombia's new foreign trade exchange point, with capacity for bulk solids, vehicles and containers. Metalteco will install state-of-the-art technology in this port, bringing the bulk terminal to the level of large international ports.

Due to its track record in the market and specialized experience in the manufacturing of dry bulk handling machinery and grain conveying systems such as belt conveyors, chain conveyors and bucket elevators, Metalteco was directly invited to bid on this project. Under the EPC contract modality, Metalteco teamed up with Inacar to form the MIIT Consortium, in charge of the civil and metal-mechanical works for the dry bulk terminal. These works include metallic support structures, vertical and horizontal storage silos, emission control systems, industrial enclosures, floor and bulk scales, machinery, electrical works, automation and control software developed; together with civil works such as roads, offices and urban planning.

Puerto Antioquia, with an investment of US$760 million, expects to generate approximately 2,500 direct and indirect jobs. It is also expected to create more than 11,000 businesses associated with maritime transportation, maritime zones, customs, hotels and restaurants. During the construction phase, the project is governed by IFC international banking standards. It has a local hiring percentage of 80%, which has brought development to the local communities of Nueva Colonia and Rio Grande. Likewise, the extensive movement of commercial and business operations around the construction of the port has become an engine of development for the municipalities of Apartadó and Turbo.

The port is expected to be ready to start operations in the first half of 2025. At the moment, in addition to the dry bulk terminal, the construction of the pier, the port access road, the junction platform and 4.2 kilometers of viaduct, one of the longest in the continent, are expected to be completed.
